Flipkart To Enter Into Healthcare Space, Buys An Online Pharmacy Marketplace

Flipkart has to be one of the leading shopping websites in India. It is a Walmart-backed organisation that has been able to get huge popularity in India. To expand its business further, Flipkart has decided to acquire an online pharmacy named SastaSundar. The company has been keen to enter into the healthcare segment for a long time now in India. The objective has finally been achieved and the tussle for supremacy has grown in the e-commerce market in this country.

It is the second-largest internet market all across the globe and Flipkart has made this bold decision just to make sure that they get an upper hand over the rest of the business giants in India. The size of the deal has not been announced but if we go by the reports, the deal was pretty massive. It had to be so since SastaSundar has been a pretty renowned organisation, having a value of $125 million when it was valued the last time in 2019.

Flipkart has decided to call it Flipkart Health+. It can be considered as a response to Amazon’s entry into healthcare last year, having sold medicines effectively and successfully. Reliance Retail bought NetMads last year so this decision of Flipkart is more reactive than proactive. A recent study of India’s market shows that the healthcare sector is going to rely heavily on e-commerce in the times to come. The scope for growth is high for any business in this regard, which is the reason why business giants such as Flipkart and Amazon have decided to enter this sector.

The founder of SastaSundar, Ravi Kant Sharma, believes that this acquisition by Flipkart would help SastaSundar to provide affordable healthcare all over the country in a convenient manner. How much would Flipkart benefit from this deal? It will be interesting to see how the healthcare sector shapes up to be e-commerce!
